Merchant Signs The Perlorian Brothers

Sep. 15, 2022

Canadian production company Merchant announces today that award-winning director duo The Perlorian Brothers are joining their roster for representation in the Canadian commercial and film market.

With over 18 years of experience, the director duo have been making the headlines and collecting accolades since their arrival to the directorial scene in 2004. Almost two decades of commercial work has seen them collaborate with major brands including Nike, IKEA, Mastercard, Nestea, Klarna, Tymex, Budlight, and Mountain Dew, as well as renowned agencies including BBDO, Mother, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, Arnold, DDB, and Wieden & Kennedy to name a few.

Such an expansive career has also seen the Perlorian Brothers work with legends across the worlds of film, music, comedy, and sport, including Robert Goulet, Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets, Kenny G, Bette Midler, Rob Riggle (Step Brothers) and Seinfeld's George Costanza.

With their work having been described as "mesmerising", "strange", "ridiculous", "dreamy", "brilliant", "hilarious", and "absurd", the duo has undoubtedly created their own brand of comedy storytelling, which accompanied with their absurdist humour has made their work so popular with brands and agencies. As such, they have won critical acclaim and numerous awards for their commercial work from shows including Cannes Lions, D&AD, the One Show, Clio, The Bessies, Andy Awards and Shots.

On top of this, their Emerald Nuts "Boogeyman" commercial, starring Robert Goulet, was named by Time Magazine "one of the greatest Super Bowl commercials of all time", whilst their ‘Anti-Smoking Social Farter’ ad for the Ontario Health Ministry was named by CNN ‘the best public service announcement ever’.

The Perlorian Brothers commened:

“What appealed to us about Merchant? Parking spaces, root beer float parties, wild ambition and the chance to burn down the old establishment and replace it with the new establishment, whilst having fun. We are looking to make the BEST ads with the BEST people at the BEST agencies for the BEST clients.”

The team at Merchant, said:

“Like The Perlorian Brothers, the Merchant team is also composed of resourceful, strange, close-to-but-not-quite superhumans who appreciate a quirky sense of humour. As a non-traditional production house, we identify with the Perlorians’ mesmerising, ridiculous, and absurd directorial style and their capacity to make the banal of everyday life, be it banking or beer, brilliant."

Merchant continued:

“Since we opened up shop on October 4th, 2020, we have been committed to finding the best creatives with exciting and innovative repertoires. The Perlorian Brothers represent a major leap forward for us as a new production studio. They are expert storytellers with an impressive and iconic body of work and having them join the Merchant roster. As a creative-forward company, we are driven to work with directors who prioritise original storytelling and think outside the box.”
