Boutique production company Someplace Nice has today welcomed multi-award winning director Jonathan Zames to its roster for representation in Canada.

Born in Montreal and now based in New York, Jonathan shoots on an international scale and works in both French and English. Combining a strong photographic aesthetic with a flair for comedy, his unique background and expertise as a cinematographer, screenwriter, and creative director makes for a truly singular sensibility.

During his career, Jonathan has helmed campaigns for iconic brands such as Apple, Samsung, Tide, Smirnoff, and Gillette and worked with major production companies including Caviar and Bullitt. Prior to this, he served as a lead creative for Google, overseeing the video creative for many of the brand’s campaigns.

Particular campaign highlights include ‘Celebrity Assistant’ for Visa, which played at Toronto International Film Festival screenings in 2019 and showcased Jonathan’s versatility with improvisation, small casts, and minimal setups, and ‘Stuffed in a Room’ for Little Caesars. Originally shot for Canadian markets, the campaign has since expanded to the US, recently debuting across multiple formats.

Jonathan’s work has been recognised on a global scale, with campaigns celebrated at Cannes Lions, AICP Awards, AD STARS, and the Telly Awards - including the 2017 Cannes Lions-winning ‘Pride for Everyone’ work for Google.

Jonathan Zames comments:

“I’ve been intrigued by Someplace Nice for a while, as I heard great things from so many collaborators over the years. When I finally met Estelle [Weir] and Chilo [Fletcher], it was just an obvious no-brainer. While I’m based in the US, I’m a proud Canadian so I’ve decided to make Canadian work my overriding priority right now. We do have the best comedy in the world after all.”

Chilo Fletcher, Partner and Executive Producer at Someplace Nice, adds:

“Estelle and I are thrilled to represent Jonathan. We’ve had the pleasure of working with him already and seeing just how supremely creative, collaborative and kind he is. We love his style of humour and his comedy writing, he brings a lot of new ideas to his treatments.”
